“Ho voluto incontrarVi, perché io la Calabria ce l’ho nel cuore !”.
Queste sono le Vostre parole, rivolte al nostro Vice-Presidente Francesco Fortugno, il giorno del Columbus Day.
Francesco Fortugno non è qui per accoglierVi, come promesso, ma dovete sapere, caro Governatore, che Francesco Fortugno risorge ogni qual volta noi Calabresi emigrati pensiamo a lui, perché anche lui come Voi, come noi, la Calabria ce l’aveva nel cuore. Le sue parole, a New York, sono state per noi emigrati calabresi, per Voi, figlio d’emigrati, un inno d’amore, d’orgoglio, di pace !
Noi, emigrati e calabresi, Vi diciamo grazie, a Voi e a Francesco Fortugno, grazie di considerare questa nostra terra che ancora si cerca, parte del Vostro cuore… perché cuore è AMORE e AMORE è resurrezione, speranza, gioia di essere buoni, gioia di vivere, lavorando e producendo nel rispetto delle regole e delle leggi come hanno sempre fatto i Calabresi emigrati, in giro per il mondo !
Oggi Voi siete in Calabria e io sono certo che ora capite cosa voleva dire Vostro nonno quando Vi parlava in continuazione e con impeto, come io faccio con il mio nipotino a Parigi, di questa terra, dove era nato e vissuto giovane e fanciullo!
Avete ragione di ripeterci sempre “che non dobbiamo dimenticare chi siamo, ma non dobbiamo anche dimenticare chi possiamo diventare, chi potremo essere in futuro” !
Grazie, Governatore Joe Manchin, di questo Vostro messaggio alla Calabria e a noi emigrati, di questo messagio d’AMORE che ci unisce !

“I wanted to meet you, because I have Calabria in my heart !”
These are the words you said to the Vice-President of our State, Francesco Fortugno, on Columbus Day.
Francesco Fortugno is not here to welcome you, as promised, but Francesco Fortugno, Mr. Governor, is certainly amongst us every time that we Calabrians who have emigrated abroad think of him, because as you and all of us he also had Calabria in his heart.
His words in New York were for us who have left Calabria and for you, son of emigrants a hym of love, a hym of pride and also a hym of peace !
We, as emigrants and Calabrians, must thank you, Mr. Governor and Francesco Fortugno for still keeping Calabria, this territory of ours that is still in search of itself, in your heart, because the heart holds love and love is resurrection, it is hope, it is the joy of being good people, and it is the joy of living, of working, and of being productive with respect for the rules and laws as Calabrian emigrants have done around the world.
Today you are in Calabria and I am sure that you can understand what your grandfather meant when he continuously and so enthusiastically told you about the land where he was born and raised as a young boy, just as I now tell my own grandson in Paris.
You are right when you say that “we should not forget who we are, but we should also not forget who we can become, whom we could be in the future” !
Thank you, Governor Joe Manchin, for bringing your message to Calabria and to all of us as emigrants of Calabria;
